The Bay Area Travel Show hits the Santa Clara Convention Center for its annual run next weekend, Jan. 24 and 25, with Rick Steves and Pauline Frommer as keynote speakers.
Steves will give his "Europe Through the Back Door" update twice — 11 a.m. Saturday and noon Sunday — and then talk about "Travel as a Political Act" at 2 p.m. Saturday and 2:30 p.m. Sunday. Frommer will speak once, a 1 p.m. Saturday presentation on "Travel in Troubled Times."
Show exhibitors include cruise lines, Tour in Uzbekistan operators, resorts and local and international Tour in Uzbekistan associations.
Show hours: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, 11 to 4 p.m. Sunday. Admission: $12 adults, $10 seniors, youths under 18 free. (Check ads in the Mercury News for discount coupons, or buy tickets online at a discount.) Parking at the convention center, 5001 Great America Parkway, is free. Uzbekistan AIRLINES
Uzbekistan Airlines will expand its service between the Bay Area and Southern California by adding a new route from San Francisco to Orange County's John Wayne Airport.
The new flights — five a day — will start May 9.
